After Kamala Mills blaze, another fire in Mumbai: 4, including two children, dead in Andheri East
Four people, including two children, were killed and five injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in Mumbai’s Andheri East early on Thursday morning.
Preliminary investigations by the fire brigade suggest a short-circuit in an air conditioner (AC) caused the fire in Mamoon Manzil in Bhori colony.
The deceased were identified as Sakina A Kapasi (14), Mohsin A Kapasi (10), Tasleem A Kapasi (42) and Dawood Ali Kapasi (80). The five who suffered burn injuries were admitted to Holy Spirit hospital and their condition is stated to be stable.
According to officials, a total of 17 people were rescued. The fire, which came less than a week after 14 people were killed in a blaze in the Kamala Mills compound, broke out around 2 am was brought under control by 7 am. Five fire engines and water tankers were used to douse the blaze.
In Thursday’s tragedy, a small part of the AC machine --- which was believed to be burning --- fell on 14-year-old Sakina, who was sleeping in her bed. Her screams woke up her brother Mohsin, who alerted their father, mother Tasleen and grandfather Dawood.
The father went out of the room to get help but the others could not get out due to an automatic lock in the door.
The mother and the son went and hid in the bathroom, where they died of suffocation. The girl and her grandfather died of burn injuries.The police have registered a case of accidental death. source hindustantimes.com
