• We should make full use of our talents, resources, and opportunities. If we are lazy, the moving finger writes, and having writ moves on.
• There comes a time in the life of every nation when it stands at the crossroads of history and must choose which way to go.

It is only through labor and painful effort, by grim energy and resolute courage, that we move on to better things.

• We want to keep our civil liberties, but at the same time, we want to be strong. We do not want to be defensive weaklings.
• Success in science and scientific work comes not through the provision of unlimited or big resources but in the wise and careful selection of problems and objectives.
• Those who govern must see how education and material development can be combined with the progress of the soul so that the emphasis we have laid on our material progress does not lead to the disintegration of our society.
