"Smart watches and smart rings used for measuring blood sugar levels without piercing the skin can pose a dangerous risk.
Washington, February 22 (U.S.): The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cautioned consumers against the use of smart watches or smart rings that are employed to measure blood sugar levels without puncturing the skin. The administration stated that it is working to ensure that manufacturers, distributors, and retailers do not unlawfully market devices that claim to measure blood sugar levels. It pointed out that these devices differ from FDA-approved blood glucose meters and display data through smartwatch applications. The FDA stated that it has not granted approval or authorization for any smart watch or smart ring whose sole purpose is to measure or estimate glucose levels in the blood. The administration confirmed that inaccurate readings of blood sugar levels could lead to errors in managing the disease."
